About the Role
Peloton is seeking a highly motivated Industrial Designer with over 8 years of experience, preferably in adjacent industries like automotive, aerospace, or large equipment. This role involves leading the aesthetic, functional, and usability development of large-scale fitness equipment through the entire design process. The ideal candidate is passionate about health and fitness and eager to collaborate with a dedicated team of designers, engineers, vendors, and business partners.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop large-scale fitness equipment, managing integrated subsystems and member input devices.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Mechanical Engineering, UX Testing, and Software teams to create engaging fitness equipment.
- Manage end-to-end product development, from research and concept exploration to DFM and launch.
- Make and articulate design decisions for products and components.
- Utilize diverse inputs to foster creative thinking, propose designs, and evolve the company's design language.
- Communicate design ideas effectively through physical prototypes, sketches, 2D presentations, and CAD.
- Implement tasks with high quality, developing and maintaining design intent with minimal supervision.
- Produce work free of major technical defects and independently troubleshoot issues.
- Resolve technical challenges with cross-functional partners and vendors to uphold design intent.
- Actively participate in team discussions, foster design debates, and mediate conversations to drive decisions.
- Own and present work, tailoring presentations to the target audience.
- Facilitate team brainstorms to stimulate creativity and capture ideas.
- Manage multiple projects (2+) simultaneously at various development stages.
- Specify CMF for user-facing parts and ensure production parts meet design and CMF requirements.
Requirements
- Proven understanding of the Product Development Process and ability to manage complex design assemblies.
- Detailed and well-thought-out work approach.
- Experience leading sophisticated projects with direction from program leaders and input from cross-functional partners.
- Ability to self-define relevant parameters, set, and prioritize deliverables with appropriate timeframes.
- Skill in asking the right questions to inform and define outcomes for oneself and others.
- Experience bringing analog and digital products to market that meet rigorous ergonomic and usability requirements.
- Experience developing mass-produced products (small and large-scale) using various manufacturing methods (plastic injection molding, metal stamping, welding, die casting, extrusions, soft goods).
- Passion for design and ability to translate brand values into compelling narratives, products, and experiences.
- Portfolio submission required, demonstrating process, problem-solving, and prototyping (PDF preferred).
