About the Role
Assist a partner with a catastrophic injury caseload on behalf of clients who have sustained serious life-changing injuries, particularly brain injuries, spinal injuries, and serious orthopaedic injuries.
Responsibilities
- Meet with new clients to discuss their case and concerns, supporting them through the litigation process.
- Liaise with case managers to assist with timely and high-quality rehabilitation after serious injury.
- Support clients with referrals for benefits advice and set up personal injury trusts.
- Collate and review medical records from various sources.
- Organize disclosure items clearly and methodically.
- Visit witnesses, take notes, and draft witness statements.
- Instruct experts, including liability, medical, and non-medical experts.
- Maintain regular contact with clients for medical assessments and travel arrangements.
- Attend conferences with Counsel, take notes, report on next steps, and conduct follow-up tasks.
- Prepare for Court attendances and attend alongside Counsel or supervising Partner.
- Assist in the presentation of work in department and team meetings.
Requirements
- Ideally have some injury and medical claims experience, but not essential.
- Must have an interest in claimant personal injury work and a desire to further a career in this area.
- Must demonstrate a mature and empathetic approach to seriously injured people.
- Must be well-organized, use initiative, prioritize appropriately, show attention to detail, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills (be respectful, positive, articulate, professional, and sympathetic).
- Must adopt a “can do” approach, show commercial awareness, and represent the department and firm appropriately.
- Must be reliable, show commitment, and be a supportive team player.
- Must reflect the firm’s culture in internal and external presentation.
