About the Role
The MLOps Engineering Manager will help shape how Trainline builds, deploys, and operates machine learning products at scale, working closely with various technical teams and stakeholders. This role is crucial in supporting critical areas of the platform, from customer support to pricing and personalized experiences, contributing to Trainline's mission of promoting sustainable travel choices.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a new team of MLOps Engineers, fostering an environment for optimal performance and meaningful outcomes.
- Define and evolve MLOps processes, tooling, and infrastructure to support scalable, reliable, and maintainable machine learning and AI systems.
- Own the deployment and operation of machine learning products, ensuring production readiness, observability, and scalability.
- Partner with engineering, data science, product, and data teams to integrate strong engineering standards into ML delivery.
- Support the productionization of batch and online machine learning models, including recommendation systems, classification/regression models, LLMs, and agent-based systems.
- Promote high standards for experimentation, testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to Trainline’s AI and ML community by sharing knowledge and shaping best practices.
- Guide technology choices for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, and MLOps tooling, emphasizing long-term maintainability and business value.
Requirements
- Experience leading, managing, or mentoring engineers with a thoughtful and inclusive approach.
- Strong experience in productionizing machine learning models at scale, covering batch and online use cases.
- Good understanding of the machine learning development lifecycle.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS) and DevOps technologies (Docker, Terraform, CI/CD, IaC).
- Familiarity with MLOps tools and practices.
- Strong Python experience.
- Understanding of feature stores and related data technologies.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts accessibly.
