About the Role

The Employee Relations Senior Manager serves as a trusted advisor on workplace conduct, conflict, and compliance. This role leads impartial investigations, coaches leaders through complex people issues, and ensures policies and practices are fair, consistent, and legally sound.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, managing a caseload of grievances, complaints, conflicts, and disciplinary issues from intake through resolution.
  • Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations; document findings and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Advise and guide employees and managers on the interpretation and consistent application of company policies, procedures, applicable employment law and with guidance from the employment legal team.
  • Lead or contribute to organisation‑wide Employee Relations programmes and initiatives, including organisational change, redundancy and transformation activity involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Coach people managers through performance management, progressive discipline, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and difficult conversations.
  • Partner with People Partners and leadership to resolve complex, escalated, or high-sensitivity employee issues.
  • Build manager capability through proactive guidance and training.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local employment laws and regulations; monitor legislative changes and update policies and practices accordingly.
  • Develop, review, and revise People policies and employee relations procedures.
  • Partner with Legal and outside employment counsel on high-risk matters.
  • Manage terminations, offboarding, and reductions in force in a legally compliant, consistent, and respectful manner.
  • Facilitate mediation and conflict-resolution sessions between individuals or teams, working toward durable, fair outcomes.
  • Identify and address interpersonal or cultural issues before they escalate.
  • Track, analyze, and report on employee relations trends, metrics, and case outcomes; identify root causes and recommend proactive interventions.
  • Design and deliver training for managers and employees on topics such as anti-harassment, code of conduct, respectful workplace, and investigation best practices in collaboration with the Compliance team.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating as an ER practitioner at a senior level, with the ability to execute independently while contributing to broader global strategy.
  • Fresh, innovative, and data-driven thinking applied to complex ER challenges — with a growth mindset and a track record of high-impact outcomes.
  • Strong business and people acumen, with excellent consulting, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills across diverse cultural contexts.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK and European employment law (including but not limited to GDPR, works council obligations, and country-specific labour laws across the EU).
  • Solid grounding in US employment law (ADA, ADEA, FMLA) is an advantage.
  • Collaborative, influential, and decisive — able to lead and partner at all levels of the organisation while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Clear and inclusive communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues, influence decisions and support others through challenging topics.
  • Sound judgement, with the ability to consider colleague experience, organisational impact and risk in a balanced way.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in complex settings and engage constructively with differing views.
