About the Role

Decision Inc Australia is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join their team. This role involves working with a diverse range of clients, requiring the ability to quickly understand new business environments. You will be challenged and supported to develop expertise in data technology, analytics, and soft skills, contributing to client projects across various industries.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with clients to design and modernize data environments.
  • Build robust data pipeline architecture and analytics solutions.
  • Support the Sales team through pre-sales activities and Proof of Concepts (POCs).
  • Assemble complex data sets that meet business requirements and drive actionable insights.
  • Deliver billable client engagements.
  • Conceptualize data solutions with clients.
  • Modernize existing data environments.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to junior consultants.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Build the infrastructure required for the optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of data sources using Microsoft technologies.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize data pipelines to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders to resolve data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to enhance the functionality and capability of data systems.
  • Participate in technical reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Assist with technical training and knowledge transfer for consultants and clients.
  • Contribute to the technical development of junior consultants through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to and progressively lead technical blogs, forums, and/or workshops.
  • Assist the Support Desk where applicable.
  • Balance team support responsibilities with billable work.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role.

Requirements

  • Experience building and maintaining data pipeline architecture and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience with modern data platform technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake or similar modern data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience assembling large, complex data sets.
  • Experience modernizing and migrating legacy data environments to cloud platforms.
  • Ability to design and implement process improvements, automation, and scalable infrastructure.
  • Experience building analytics tools that deliver actionable business insights.
  • Exposure to client-facing consulting, including solution conceptualization and requirements gathering.
  • Exposure to pre-sales activities and Proof of Concept (POC) development.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and guidance to team members, including junior consultants.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and executive audiences.
  • Experience participating in technical reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Ability to deliver technical training and knowledge transfer sessions to colleagues and clients.
  • Commitment to knowledge sharing through technical blogs, forums, workshops, or other learning initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
