About the Role

As the Manager of the Platform Support team in Japan, you will be responsible for developing team members and managing the organization. You will also serve as the leader of the Platform Support organization in Japan and the point of contact for the global Platform Support organization. Collaborate closely with global members in the US and India to drive Platform Support strategy, operational models, Developer Experience improvements, and AI-driven automation strategies on behalf of the Japanese Platform Support team. Additionally, design a next-generation operational model combining Platform Engineering, Service Reliability Engineering, and Technical Operations Support (TOS) to build a global Platform Support model usable not only in Japan but across all of PlayStation. This is a position with significant discretion where you can make an impact by transforming operations with AI, designing organizations and operational models, and working with global teams to impact PlayStation as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment, talent development, and performance management as the People Manager for the Platform Support team in Japan.
  • Act as the representative for the Platform Support organization in Japan and the point of contact with the Global Platform Support team, fostering collaboration with stakeholders in Japan, the US, and India.
  • Formulate the Platform Support organization's roadmap and OKRs/KPIs, leading continuous improvement across the entire organization.
  • Develop and drive strategies for AI-driven operational automation, standardization, and Developer Experience enhancement.
  • Establish new operational tasks within Platform Support, standardize and automate them, then transition them to execution teams like TOS to build scalable operational models.
  • Collaborate with related teams, including Platform Engineering and application development teams, to improve reliability, operability, and Developer Experience.
  • Establish a global operational model that extends beyond Japan by developing 'Follow the Sun' systems and common operational processes.
  • Communicate challenges and requests from Japanese engineering teams to the global organization, and disseminate global strategies and best practices to Japan.
  • Continuously review Platform Support organization KPIs to drive improvements such as Toil reduction, automation, and self-service.
  • Build and develop a Platform Support team that consistently achieves high results, enhancing talent and organizational capabilities.
  • Improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work (Toil) by enhancing the operational model using AI and automation.
  • Enhance the service quality of Platform Support and the satisfaction of stakeholders, including internal engineering teams.
  • Standardize and continuously improve reliability, security, and operational quality across all supported common platforms.
  • Build strong partnerships with global engineering organizations in Japan, the US, and India, and promote global operational models.
  • Establish scalable operational processes and self-service platforms that enable engineering teams to deliver services more quickly and securely while maintaining reliability and security.
  • Establish the Platform Support organization as a core entity for common platform operations, Developer Experience, and AI utilization in Japan.

Requirements

  • Experience as a People Manager for an engineering team.
  • Experience leading technical projects involving multiple departments and teams.
  • Experience collaborating with global teams, including those in Japan and overseas.
  • Experience achieving consensus with stakeholders across diverse cultures and time zones.
  • Business-level Japanese and English communication skills.
  • Experience in Platform Engineering, SRE, or large-scale service operations using Public Cloud.
  • Experience in operational improvement utilizing AI and automation.
