About the Role
Medical Assistants are needed to support providers by performing clinical, administrative, and housekeeping duties. This role involves direct patient interaction, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, drawing blood, and basic wound care. You will also assist with front desk tasks and maintain exam room cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical, administrative, and housekeeping duties.
- Interact directly with patients, taking and recording vital signs.
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures.
- Perform simple wound care.
- Collect, prepare, and run simple laboratory tests and report results.
- Assist the front desk with administrative duties.
- Maintain the cleanliness of examination rooms.
- Monitor and document supply levels.
- Take and record patient vitals including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation.
- Perform urine dipstick/urinalysis with culture, rapid pregnancy tests, rapid strep/throat culture, rapid flu, pertussis swabs, rapid mono, blood glucose, and wound culture.
- Complete nurse notes with full documentation.
- Input CPT codes properly.
- Perform DOT/Non-DOT drug screens and physicals (including Audiogram, Spirometry, EKG, and visual acuity testing) after proper training and certification.
- Assist in vaginal/rectal exams, I&Ds, ear irrigations, and eye irrigations.
- Set up for nebulizer treatments and assist in emergency situations.
- Perform phlebotomy and send samples to the correct lab.
- Perform follow-up phone calls to patients (callbacks 5 days later) under provider direction.
- Assist front desk staff by answering telephones, greeting patients, and updating medical records.
- Clean exam rooms between patients, stock rooms and labs during downtime, and complete daily tasks.
- Act as a supportive team player.
- React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Adjust responsibilities and patient load to accommodate a fast-paced environment.
- Work under the supervision of a Provider.
- Execute all orders from a Provider.
- Maintain excellent customer service.
- Register patients, verify insurance, and schedule appointments.
- Collect copays, deductibles, coinsurances, and payments on accounts.
- Answer phone calls, route them appropriately, and take messages.
- Adhere to professional expectations outlined in the employee handbook.
- Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule.
- Participate in department and company-sponsored meetings and events.
Requirements
- Minimum high school degree or equivalent.
- Current CPR and First Aid/BLS Certifications.
- Previous Urgent Care work experience is highly desirable.
- Phlebotomy and EKG experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, and families.
- Willingness to take responsibility for actions and act positively upon feedback.
- Able to withstand physical & mental demands: standing, walking, stooping, bending.
- Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients.
- Occasional stress in working with tense patients.
