About the Role
This position provides academic support in Lower School First or Second grade English classes, working closely with the Classroom teacher to lead small group literacy instruction, reinforce learning, and support students' academic development.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children and ensure their safety at all times.
- Collaborate positively with the English teacher.
- Support the teachers' pedagogical methods and the school's philosophy and values.
- Review lesson plans and understand goals before leading student groups.
- Lead student group activities including guided reading, phonics study, and writing.
- Facilitate students' well-being and learning.
- Communicate regularly with the English teacher about student progress.
- Support the English teacher in organizational and material aspects of the class.
- Attend faculty training sessions and apply knowledge to daily work.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
Requirements
- Proficient in the English language.
- Experience working and reading with children aged 6-8.
- CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire.
- Mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.
- Aware of the needs of children aged 6-8 and have appropriate expectations.
- Able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry loads up to 30 lbs.
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
- Fingerprinting and criminal background check required.
- Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered per the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
