About the Role

The Sales Specialist is a key client-facing role within S&P Global, responsible for business development for its specialist product line and region, focusing on new business, renewals, and new product roll-outs. The candidate will be the primary driver of revenue acquisition, working within the Fixed Income Pricing and Valuation sales team and collaborating with other sales, account management, business development, and data support teams.

Responsibilities

  • Generate lead pipeline for new business and existing clients.
  • Report actual vs. budgeted sales and provide accurate forecasts.
  • Maintain client communication through regular contact with key users, building trust to generate new business.
  • Identify client needs and highlight cross-selling opportunities to relevant Sales Specialist teams.
  • Coordinate with relevant sales specialists for multi-product opportunities to deliver client solutions.
  • Proactively seek sales referrals from existing accounts.
  • Take ownership of client issues with assistance from data and business development teams.
  • Maintain pipeline and generate management reports (e.g., cold calls list, user list) from Salesforce.
  • Delegate non-revenue opportunity related activities (billing, client setup, training, contractual administration) to support teams.
  • Maintain a high standard of knowledge for defined S&P Global products and referral knowledge for other product lines.
  • Act as a point person for allocated products, providing client support, technical information, and product characteristics.
  • Coach sales peers on sales USPs and pre-sales questioning.
  • Actively participate in and drive sales conferences, special events, collateral production, client entertainment, and association memberships to maximize sales revenue and retention.
  • Organize self and others, including effective scheduling, prioritization, and time management, to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Clearly establish and communicate expectations and accountabilities.

Requirements

  • Candidates will have significant proven sales experience, ideally from a data, financial software, Asset Management, or banking background.
  • Strong inter-personal and influencing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple sales in parallel while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven track record in generating own pipeline from cold calls.
  • Ability to meet internal/external deadlines.
  • Ability to listen, learn quickly, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to present and negotiate with senior-level management and manage complex sales processes.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Commercial awareness to understand the end-to-end sales process and experience in dealing with senior-level negotiations.
  • Ability to demonstrate interest in staying abreast of industry developments.
