About the Role
The Content Commissioning Manager supports the global product team and the British Council's position as a leading provider of high-quality ELT courses. This role contributes to the overall teaching and learning strategy by ensuring supplier work aligns with learning designs for the segment. The manager oversees the pipeline for learning content elements of proprietary learning products through all stages of product development, managing outsourcing of content to ensure delivery within budget, on time, and to defined standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with stakeholders to scope, define, and prioritize projects.
- Acts as project lead for learning materials development, managing schedules, resources, and costs.
- Reviews products to ensure adherence to British Council Brand standards, EDI guidelines, project guidelines, and stakeholder requirements.
- Ensures adequate resources are in place to support content development.
- Plans, monitors, and reports on schedules, costs, resources, and risks associated with content development.
- Applies agreed systems and processes to monitor project progress.
- Identifies suppliers, tenders, and procures goods and services from various suppliers.
- Seeks to maximize value for money when acquiring resources, goods, or services.
- Prepares project guidelines and briefs internal and external suppliers.
- Ensures products are customer-focused and meet market and business requirements.
- Responds to stakeholder issues and requests in a timely manner.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of developments in the ELT market and e-learning.
- Supports internal monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for publishing procedures.
- Monitors copyright records for British Council and third-party assets.
- Ensures copyright permissions are cleared before publication.
- Manages the outsourcing of content from a range of suppliers, ensuring compliance to contract terms.
- Contributes to the development and delivery of training, support, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Ensures regular and effective communication and smooth working relationships between team members and external suppliers.
- Ensures a unified approach to product development by collaborating with internal stakeholders.
- Provides advice and support to colleagues to ensure high-quality, cost-effective products.
- Plans and prioritizes own work activities.
- Builds teams of external suppliers and manages in-house content developers and project managers.
- Makes recommendations to the management team on publishing routes.
- Provides training and development for staff and new suppliers.
- Manages suppliers.

Requirements
- Full time residency in the UK or Poland with unlimited right to work.
- Minimum of three years’ experience teaching English as a foreign or second language to learners.
- Minimum of seven years’ professional ELT publishing experience with a proven track record of producing multi-component, multi-level materials.
- Experience includes strategic content planning and product management at commissioning editor level.
- Experience researching, conceptualizing, scoping, and setting up new projects.
- Experience project managing development of print and digital products through the full publishing process.
- Experience of procuring goods and services and negotiating contracts from a large range of suppliers.
- Experience of coordinating, communicating, and collaborating with large, dispersed teams and remote working.
Skills
- Written and verbal fluency in English.
- Knowledge of printing and distribution.
- Knowledge of accessibility and EDI.
- Knowledge of Intellectual Property/copyright.
- Knowledge of translations of products.
- Knowledge of market research and testing.

- PLN 192,000 - 252,000 (Poland)
