About the Role
El Puente is seeking a reliable and community-minded Maintenance Worker / Cleaner to support the daily operations and upkeep of the Bushwick Leadership Center. This role contributes to a space serving youth development, community engagement, and leadership building by ensuring the facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness of rooms such as offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas through sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting priority spaces.
- Clean and disinfect restroom facilities while ensuring that soap, toilet paper, and paper towel supplies remain stocked.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout designated areas of the facility.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces including tables, desks, door handles, railings, and light switches.
- Help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming entrances, exits, and access points throughout the center.
- Organize and maintain cleaning supplies and storage areas.
- Monitor the facility and report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to site leadership.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs or addressing minor facility needs, when appropriate.
- Provide occasional support with room setup, breakdown, or movement of supplies for programs and meetings.
- Respond to immediate cleaning-related concerns, such as spills or safety hazards that occur during scheduled shifts.
- Follow all health and safety procedures related to cleaning products, materials, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with employees and leadership to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Requirements
- Previous experience in custodial, maintenance, cleaning, facilities, or related work preferred.
- The ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to lift, move, and transport cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment as needed.
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing facility needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with employees and leadership.
- Reliability, consistency, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- A demonstrated connection to El Puente's mission and a genuine alignment with work rooted in community, dignity, and care.
- Experience working in a school, community center, nonprofit, or youth-serving environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
