About the Role

The Medical Manager position provides leadership and strategic direction to achieve company, business unit, and individual performance objectives. This role is critical for leading medical activities with internal and external stakeholders, establishing educational activities with healthcare providers, and fostering research collaborations with Key Opinion Leaders to build product awareness and advocacy. This position supports Japan affiliate goals by developing aligned global strategies and facilitating collaboration with global and regional teams, operating under the departmental guidance of Japan Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive activities from the medical and scientific perspective.
  • Develop and deliver medical and scientific messaging based on key outcomes and clinical data in coordination with commercial, market access, and regulatory teams.
  • Enhance awareness of product clinical benefits among HCPs.
  • Engage KOLs through daily interaction, advisory board meetings, round table discussions, and scientific interviews to accelerate advocate development in Japan.
  • Provide medical guidance for clinical studies, review and support IIS proposals, generate clinical evidence initiated by Abbott, and accelerate scientific publication with KOLs.
  • Develop and execute external medical education programs for key stakeholders, including HCPs, government, and regulators.
  • Develop and execute medical and scientific events at scientific congresses.
  • Support the Marketing team from a medical and scientific perspective.
  • Support and execute scientific sales training.
  • Manage medical information issues.
  • Review medical or commercial materials.
  • Support customer service.
  • Facilitate collaboration with global and regional teams.

Requirements

  • MD or PhD degree with strong scientific and clinical background is preferred, or HCPs background such as nurse or pharmacist or clinical dietitian.
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience in diabetes care or internal medicine is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years related industry experience in diabetes care (professional medical education or clinical research), or equivalent experience in healthcare management and a working knowledge of related fields is preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Japanese is essential.
  • Medical scientific writing, reading, and discussing capability in English is required.
  • English communication skill at a business level.
  • Ability to search, read, and assess medical and scientific articles.
  • Rich knowledge and experience using PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
