About the Role
The Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and guest-ready restaurant while supporting efficient food and beverage service. This role works closely with the front and back of house teams to ensure smooth operations, cleanliness, and exceptional guest experiences.
Responsibilities
- Maintain excellent customer service
- Create a welcoming environment for guests upon arrival and departure
- Maintain cleanliness of all restaurant areas throughout shift by sweeping, cleaning windows and doors, arranging chairs, etc.
- Deliver food accurately and assist guests courteously when appropriate
- Support guest satisfaction by responding quickly to service needs
- Resolve guest complaints or concerns
- Complete shift work (including opening and closing checklists), as assigned, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards
- Maintain the restaurant with regards to cleanliness, neatness, and customer accessibility
- Clear, clean, and reset tables promptly
- Stock and replenish service stations, glassware, condiments, and supplies
- Assist with garnish and bar prep as assigned
- Follow opening, closing, sanitation, and food safety procedures
- Maintain restrooms and dining areas to company standards
- Properly rotate products and ensure perishable items are labeled
- Support servers, bartenders, hosts, and kitchen staff during service
- Communicate maintenance, inventory, safety, and operational issues to management
- Respond quickly to requests during peak periods
- Work as a team member to support other employees in their duties
- Follow the lead and direction of the manager on duty and the GM
- Communicate challenges and successes
- Be respectful of all guests, employees, vendors, and supervisors
- Inform Manager on Duty immediately of any DOH and/or food safety violations
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment and tools only as intended, properly and safely
- Take ownership over tasks that are assigned to you
- Hold self to the highest standard of performance
- Be knowledgeable of and hold yourself to all Company standards, including FGNY House Rules and the Employee Handbook
- Attend mandatory meetings including staff meetings, leadership meetings, etc.
- Perform opening and closing duties to Company standards
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor
Requirements
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, reach, and lift 50+ pounds for the duration of your shift (up to 10 hours with scheduled breaks)
- Function in a fast-paced and noisy kitchen environment
- Tolerance to temperature fluctuations
- Work with hazardous substances
- Read, write, speak, and understand basic English
- Communicate clearly
- Use a basic computer system (ex. cash register)
- Finger dexterity
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Maintain general knowledge of FGNY: locations, transportation, management team, etc.
- Adhere to Company’s policies and procedures, as well as City, State, and Federal laws and mandates
- Availability to work weekends and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business
