About the Role

This is a dynamic, clinical leadership role at the heart of international assistance, aviation & travel medicine, and medical/health insurance. The role supports the Chief Medical Officer in delivering safe, timely, and compassionate care across diverse, worldwide operations, involving complex case management, clear decision-making, and cross-border collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Advise commercial and underwriting teams on risks associated with pathologies or populations during new product design and existing business performance assessment.
  • Review individual cases for compliance with plan wordings and breach of exclusion clauses in live claims.
  • Assist in determining medical necessity and ‘customary and reasonable practice’ in live cases and precertification.
  • Assist the CMO in gathering information for complex case investigations.
  • Support nursing teams globally in the remote management of patients.
  • Advise on safe and timely intervention within the context of members' insurance cover.
  • Liaise with patients, relatives, physicians, suppliers, and agencies to ensure safe and timely patient transfer.
  • Document involvement in case management and provide clear direction to colleagues in Operations and Medical units.
  • Assist the CMO in maintaining clinically robust commercial transfer services from UK and other locations.
  • Determine if a patient's clinical status meets requirements for evacuation or other benefits.
  • Assist the CMO and other departments in fraud detection.
  • Regularly attend team, governance, network, and other meetings.
  • Maintain global situational oversight of high-profile cases and patients in transfer during office hours and on-call periods.
  • Participate in an out-of-hour on-call rota at weekends and for short periods during the week.
  • Support the workers’ compensation nursing team in managing members ill or injured at work abroad, including rehabilitation and return to work.
  • Provide input into the management of the network of field case managers.
  • Participate in and champion the Enterprise-wide clinical quality improvement program.
  • Provide clinical input in root cause analysis of incidents or near misses.
  • Escalate clinical quality or safety concerns to the Chief Medical Officer in a timely manner.
  • Attend clinical governance committee meetings and represent the CMO in their absence.
  • Participate in routine network/supplier management meetings.
  • Advise the networks team on the operational capability of current or prospective providers.
  • Assist in investigating issues arising from the use of air and ground ambulances, hospitals, and other networks.

Requirements

  • Medical degree and active license.
  • Specialty background suited to travel/assistance/acute care (e.g., Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Aviation Medicine).
  • Proven experience in complex case management, decisive clinical communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Confidence working across time zones with concise documentation and escalations.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Australia.
