About the Role
Provide physical education services for students with developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include directing support staff, maintaining student progress records, and communicating with families, students, staff, and human services professionals.
Responsibilities
- Implement student education plan goals.
- Ensure fulfillment of School District mandates.
- Write creative lesson plans using diverse methods to achieve student goals.
- Engage students in interesting, meaningful, and individualized activities.
- Foster academic, emotional, and social maturity in students.
- Provide care and instruction to promote a safe environment.
- Ensure a clean and orderly work environment.
- Formulate long-term goals and short-term objectives based on student skill levels.
- Communicate student progress to families and human service professionals.
- Attend CPSE-CSE meetings outside regular work hours as requested.
- Ensure productive collaboration of aides, assistants, and foster grandparents.
- Provide clear and succinct direction to students.
- Utilize Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) procedures.
- Advocate for students.
- Organize and maintain student records, reports, and notes.
- Establish an effective data collection and charting system.
- Document progress toward goals at specific intervals.
- Instruct in water safety and water behavior.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, and submit maintenance requests.
- Comply with all Agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain high professional standards in personal behavior and interactions.
- Perform arrival and dismissal bus duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Principal.
Requirements
- NYS Certification in Physical Education is required.
- Must possess a BA or BS degree.
- Provisional special physical education teacher certification (NYSED or accepted).
- Permanent certification must be obtained within five years of provisional certification.
- An acceptable background check (includes fingerprinting).
- Certified water safety.
- Trained in CPR.
Skills

- High level of knowledge of educational principles, especially for students with disabilities.
