About the Role

FX Digital is seeking a practical, organized, and technically minded TV Device Lab Technician to own and develop their Device Testing Lab. This role is crucial for ensuring Connected TV applications perform reliably across a wide range of devices and operating systems. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the device lab, configuring test equipment, executing test plans, diagnosing issues, and supporting software/firmware verification.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure new devices for testing.
  • Maintain existing devices, ensuring they are updated and functional.
  • Create custom cables as needed and manage lab cabling.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and connectivity issues.
  • Own the day-to-day running of the lab, ensuring organization and tidiness.
  • Handle and prioritize support requests within the lab.
  • Provide first-line support for automation questions.
  • Maintain accurate records of devices and equipment.
  • Manage the lab network, including UniFi configuration.
  • Manage the lab's Home Assistant deployment for monitoring and automation.
  • Monitor lab health (environmental conditions, network, device availability) and address issues proactively.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met within the lab.
  • Manage equipment, wiring, and power safely.
  • Assist partners in setting up and configuring their own labs.
  • Represent FX Digital professionally when working with partners.
  • Propose new ideas to improve lab operations and capabilities.
  • Assist in planning and executing the lab's growth.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills for handling support requests and collaborating with technical teams.
  • Hands-on, practical, and technically confident with hardware setup, wiring, and troubleshooting.
  • A natural tinkerer who enjoys understanding and fixing systems.
  • Well-organized with a strong instinct for maintaining a tidy, labeled, and reliable environment.
  • Self-directed with the ability to own a space and its daily operations.
  • Electronics skills or experience are a significant advantage.
  • Networking knowledge, including UniFi or similar managed network equipment is desirable.
  • Experience making up and terminating custom cables is desirable.
  • Experience with Home Assistant or similar monitoring/automation systems is desirable.
  • Familiarity with connected-TV, streaming, or device-testing environments is desirable.
  • Comfortable with test automation and able to answer first-line questions.
  • Health & safety awareness or relevant training is desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to partner sites is desirable.
  • Demonstrated mid-to-senior-level expertise, typically gained through around 10 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent expertise.
