About the Role

Serve as a steward for a significant urban greenspace, managing diverse landscapes from manicured gardens to forested woodlots. This senior position requires a blend of people skills, technical expertise, and attention to detail to manage plant care, property maintenance, and act as an ambassador for sustainable park management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and install ornamental gardens and seasonal planters.
  • Identify Ontario native species and invasives.
  • Restore and care for Tallgrass Prairie and forested areas, implementing strategies to enhance biodiversity and climate resilience.
  • Execute mechanical and biological control plans for invasive species.
  • Perform structural pruning on fruit orchards and forest stands during the off-season.
  • Manage litter and waste collection and control.
  • Mentor and direct junior and seasonal staff in daily tasks and technical skill development.
  • Act as the Competent Person under the OHSA, conducting daily tailgate meetings and ensuring strict PPE compliance.
  • Act as frontline Park Ambassador to explain ecological projects and answer public inquiries.
  • Support community stewardship activities, training participants in proper planting and maintenance techniques.
  • Assist in the installation of seasonal displays and decorations.
  • Support snow & ice control operations through record keeping, shoveling, and operating equipment to maintain safe public spaces while minimizing hazardous runoff.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with a clean abstract.

Salary/Compensations

  • $54,185 - $67,732 per annum
