About the Role
The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) provides quality education from pre-kindergarten to grade 12, in French as a first language in a minority setting. Our Council plays an active role in developing cultural identity and promoting the French language within the Acadian and Francophone cultural context of Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the lead educator to establish and maintain a motivating learning environment focused on children's knowledge development and interests.
- Encourage children to explore and create new knowledge through daily activities and social interactions.
- Support the lead educator in using evidence-based practices and professional judgment to ensure the learning environment focuses on the holistic development and overall well-being of children.
- Contribute to teamwork under the leadership of the lead educator to implement the pre-kindergarten program based on the Nova Scotia Framework for Early Childhood Learning, and all other policies and best practices defined by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), as well as the CSAP's vision and mission.
- Support planning that aligns with the Nova Scotia 'Grandir en français' pre-kindergarten program, adapting activities to the specific needs of the children in the group.
- Utilize a variety of learning activities, both indoors and outdoors, to ensure the child's overall development (physical, cognitive, emotional, and social) and language development.
- Ensure effective and positive group management.
- Participate in the implementation of intervention plans.
Requirements
- Hold a college diploma or a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, or demonstrate a commitment to obtaining one while employed (a minimum of two years of college training is required for the qualified educator classification according to the CSAP-NSGEU collective agreement).
- Possess a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
- Any combination of training and experience deemed equivalent will also be considered.
- Have good knowledge of spoken and written French.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Be able to collaborate and work effectively in a team.
- Hold a standard first aid certification - Level C (or commit to obtaining it within 2 months of starting, at the latest).
- A crisis intervention training will be considered an asset.
- A judicial check (vulnerable sector) and a child abuse registry check will be required before starting the position.
