About the Role

The Supervisor, Letter Carrier supervises a team of letter carriers and couriers to ensure proper procedures are followed in mail handling, delivery, and fund administration.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and inspects daily operations to ensure efficient mail sortation, routing, and delivery.
  • Schedules staff, determines the need for extra relief staff, and authorizes overtime.
  • Regularly checks employee performance and appearance while on routes.
  • Measures distances for new or existing delivery points and proposes route changes.
  • Assesses and recommends changes to relay bundles and drops to optimize routes and minimize costs.
  • Supervises, coaches, and provides guidance and leadership to employees.
  • Trains new employees and instructs them in new methods and procedures.
  • Resolves staff issues and consults with Labour Relations and/or union representatives.
  • Discusses problems and changes with shop stewards to resolve complaints before the grievance stage.
  • Promotes and implements workplace safety and health programs.
  • Takes corrective action to rectify unsafe operating conditions.
  • Enters employee and volume data into corporate systems and prepares performance reports.
  • Liaises with other supervisors to ensure effective coordination and problem-solving.
  • Reports building and equipment repairs and monitors third-party follow-up.
  • Maintains good public relations with customers and ensures customer experience is a priority.
  • Investigates delivery impediments and communicates with customers to resolve issues.
  • Performs other related duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent Experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma).
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing a team OR Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Possess a valid permanent driver’s license.
  • Have a satisfactory safe driving record, including specific violation and demerit point limits, and no license suspensions in the last 3 years.
