About the Role

The Director, Online & Digital Sales leads the adult trade sales strategy and day-to-day sales management for Amazon and other online/digital retail accounts, focusing primarily on Random House, Crown, and Knopf titles. This role manages a team, owns key account relationships, drives growth, and partners with internal teams to deliver profitable sales and a consistent digital retail strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, coaches, and develops a team of National Account Managers, overseeing priorities, supporting career growth, and ensuring consistent execution.
  • Leads the team in maximizing online and digital channel sales, including frontlist launches, orders, backlist growth, preorder strategy, and promotional opportunities.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with publishing leadership, sales division heads, editorial, marketing, publicity, inventory, operations, finance, credit, and analytics teams.
  • Serves as a key partner to publishers and internal stakeholders, providing clear communication, business updates, recommendations, and feedback on account performance, title opportunities, risks, market trends, and account initiatives.
  • Strategizes the development and growth of frontlist and backlist titles across Amazon and other online/digital accounts.
  • Coordinates with account contacts and internal partners to share, define, and execute promotional, merchandising, marketing, and discoverability opportunities.
  • Builds and manages monthly, seasonal, and annual account budgets, including sales forecasts, promotional plans, co-op/merchandising investments, and performance tracking.
  • Uses data, reporting, and account insights to evaluate title performance, promotional effectiveness, inventory position, consumer demand, and emerging online retail opportunities.
  • Works closely with operations and inventory partners to support forecast alignment, replenishment, availability, preorder readiness, returns visibility, and issue resolution.
  • Represents the online/digital retail channel in broader sales and publishing conversations and helps shape the company's presence with digital accounts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of prior publishing sales/marketing experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and problem-solve.
  • Proactive and able to adapt to changing priorities and environments.
  • Proven ability to successfully plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the overall book market, including familiarity with industry supply chain, authors, titles, category performance, and publishing trends.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
