About the Role

The Medical Director will oversee all medical treatment and planning for patients in a NY State OASAS certified Part 816 Medically Supervised Inpatient Detoxification program and/or Part 818 Inpatient Rehabilitation Program. This role holds overall responsibility for medical services, including examination, diagnosis, and treatment, while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and best practice approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Address medical problems reported by staff or patients
  • Collaborate with psychiatric staff to ensure medication compliance
  • Act as a consultant for medical issues pertaining to agency policy
  • Monitor and prescribe medication-assisted therapies
  • Administer and read tuberculosis (TB) tests as needed
  • Review adverse lab result findings
  • Update and maintain compliance with health department regulations
  • Develop and revise medical policies, procedures, and training for routine and emergency care
  • Advise medical staff on medical-related challenges
  • Develop referral and linkage relationships with external institutions and agencies
  • Attend case conferences and provide feedback to counseling staff
  • Approve and sign OASAS-required documents
  • Establish policies for public health education and screening regarding TB, STDs, hepatitis, HIV, and AIDS
  • Identify medical concerns and create policies for 816 and 818 substance use disorder programs
  • Supervise staff physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to supervise non-medical staff
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and supervision sessions
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Medical degree
  • Qualified Health Provider (QHP) status
  • Valid MD license and registration certificate to practice in New York State
  • DEA license
  • OPRA certification
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with a substance abuse population
  • Must obtain Board Certification in Addiction Medicine within 4 years of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification
  • Prior medical administration experience

Work Type

Salary/Compensations

  • $275,000 - $350,000
