About the Role
As a Mainframe Developer for our insurance clients, you will work on stable, high-performance applications and actively shape the transformation of legacy systems. Capgemini Financial Services supports leading banks and insurance companies in Germany in the further development and modernization of their business-critical core systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and operate business-critical mainframe applications in the insurance sector, from implementing functional requirements in COBOL (or PL/I) to further developing existing systems.
- Work with core technologies such as DB2, SQL, VSAM, and IMS (DC/CICS) and operate confidently in z/OS environments (TSO/ISPF).
- Take responsibility for both development and operational tasks: design, coding, unit tests, and debugging, as well as incident management, RCA, batch monitoring, and handling job abends.
- Analyze existing legacy applications and actively support modernization and migration efforts (e.g., Cobol-to-Java) in complex system landscapes.
- Contribute to innovative topics, such as the use of AI-powered tools for analyzing, optimizing, and modernizing mainframe applications, and collaborate closely with business departments, project teams, and IT colleagues.
Requirements
- Solid experience in mainframe development with COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM, ideally with knowledge of IMS (DC) or CICS.
- Familiarity with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and common tools and debugging solutions (e.g., Abend-AID, Xpediter, SDSF, IWS/TWS).
- Experience in both application development (SDLC, Agile, Design & Testing) and application support (L2/L3, Incident Management, SLA-driven processes).
- Ideally, experience in the insurance sector and an interest in innovative topics like AI/Generative AI in the context of software development and legacy modernization; additional skills such as REXX, SAS, TABEX, or DCF are a plus.
