About the Role

As a Manager, Quality, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. You will consult with the leadership team to set strategic direction and operating plans, initiate and approve projects for continuous improvement, and manage budgets for departments within a quality area. You will provide direct supervision, coaching, and development to your team, and solve complex problems requiring in-depth analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with leadership team to set short-term strategic direction and operating plans for assigned areas of responsibility and define guidelines/methods.
  • Initiates and approves projects to continuously improve efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Determines priorities, timetables and assigns resources/tasks.
  • Accountable for the activities and results of their functional area.
  • Typically, provides direct supervision to professional and support levels which include objective setting, performance management, and motivating, as well as training and coaching.
  • Problem solving requires hypothetical thinking to determine best solutions for complex problems.
  • Utilizes resources across work areas and departments to create solutions.
  • Implements quality plans and standards for a small to medium sized manufacturing operation.
  • Coaches and explains quality data and methodologies to functional leaders and outside suppliers/manufacturers to ensure their understanding and buy-in.
  • Partners with engineering, production, maintenance, etc. to maintain/increase the quality level within the organization.
  • Ensures local issues are incorporated into global total quality management plans, taking legal requirements and local manufacturing processes into consideration.
  • Monitors quality control processes, work assignments, attendance control, vacation planning, staffing levels, etc.
  • Anticipates new regulations and standards to be imposed in the future before launching a new main-line production.
  • Assures achievement of recognized international standards such as Six Sigma, ISO 9000, etc.
  • Promote quality best practice within the company and build a quality-oriented culture for the organization.
  • Coordinates operating activities so that products are manufactured within quality standards.
  • Complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.
  • Complies with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Contributes to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).
  • Seven (7) years of manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory and/or management experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
  • All US-based 3M full time employees will need to sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M.
