About the Role
The Compliance Business Partner supports the operations of the Compliance Department, providing strategic direction on the coordination of significant functions and resources. This role ensures regulatory compliance for assigned compliance groups and interacts with MFS management to monitor and resolve regulatory and compliance issues. It also provides leadership in policy development and interpretation based upon global regulatory and legal frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Work with Compliance management and senior management to ensure the organization’s activities comply with all pertinent legal and regulatory requirements within a specific business area.
- Act as the first point of contact for EMEA Sales and Distribution staff, providing sales practice compliance guidance.
- Provide guidance on social media use and gifts and entertainment, escalating issues to senior management as necessary.
- Stay informed about rules and regulations affecting compliance activities and ensure adherence through supervision and testing.
- Implement compliance programs in conjunction with Compliance and senior management to monitor compliance and resolve issues.
- Implement necessary changes to the compliance monitoring program, policies, procedures, manuals, training programs, and business processes.
- Identify and interact with key personnel at all levels to resolve complex compliance issues.
- Provide input to policies and procedures and collaborate with internal and external programmers and developers on technology systems.
- Lead projects to ensure effective integration of Department and corporate initiatives with workflows/processes.
- Provide training on new and revised regulations and compliance policies.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to the Compliance Department on systems-related issues and project development.
- Operate as a liaison with other systems areas within the company.
- Maintain records in conformity with regulatory and retention requirements.
- Manage the review of compliance systems to validate their utility and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency.
- Develop, review, and update procedures and controls within the group and other compliance functions.
- Investigate potential breaches of compliance rules and conduct.
- Identify regulatory issues or concerns, provide senior-level reports, and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform additional related responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent direct experience required.
- Relevant experience within a Financial Services background preferred.
- Ability to drive solutions throughout the organization and present ideas effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, collaborative problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills are essential.
- Must be able to write effectively and present research, analysis, and conclusions persuasively.
- Proven ability to develop and foster strong interpersonal relationships and maintain effective cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with outside parties at all organizational levels.
- Strong presentation skills required, including comfort presenting before large groups (40+).
- Experience in data structure and analysis is desirable.
- Hands-on experience with compliance and investment systems is desirable.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Able to develop proficiency in MFS systems as required.
- Proven analytical skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to advocate for solutions and manage implementation through to acceptance.
- Assume ownership for project delivery while operating successfully in a cross-functional, international team environment.
- Able to work overtime as necessary.
- Some periodic domestic travel may be required.
