About the Role

Co-Op Summer Enrichment is an award-winning summer camp for low-income children, delivering STEM learning and camp fun. As an Assistant Counselor, you will support a group of 12-15 campers, ensuring their safety, providing guidance, building community, and creating a fun experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, support, and collaborate with the Head Counselor for a dedicated group of children for a five-week program serving elementary children in rising grades 1 to 5.
  • Follow directions and guidance of the Head Counselor, helping to promote and provide a unified message to campers.
  • Assist campers during STEM learning blocks led by Educators and recreation activities led by Coaches.
  • Assist with activities and specialists during program blocks in areas such as crafts, nature, science, sports, and recreation.
  • Assist with daily operations, including escorting campers, guiding behavior, ensuring meals, eating with the group, and promoting positive play during recess.
  • Alert the Head Counselor about potential camper behavioral issues and conflicts, helping to diffuse situations and proactively avoid recurrence.
  • Assist educators with packing materials at the close of day and week.
  • Attend all orientation week training sessions.
  • Enforce the highest level of safety at all times, adhering to camp policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old by the start of the program.
  • Must have working papers (obtained from your high school).
  • Must be available to work the entire camp season and attend all required orientations and trainings.
  • Must possess high swimming competency.
  • Must possess a valid social security card.
  • Must complete a background check with fingerprint approval if 18 or older.
  • Must provide two references (professional or personal, non-family).
