About the Role

The HVDC Project Engineering Director (PED) is accountable for the HVDC product solution and its configuration to projects. This role serves as the primary contact for HVDC technical matters, responsible for elaborating solutions with project members and ensuring the time and quality of project deliverables within the Product Delivery Group (PDG) scope. The PED defines and manages the HVDC engineering quality plan, ensures adherence to Engineering Management Handbook (EMH) guidelines, and supervises technical coordination across HVDC project work packages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful execution of engineering activities for complex HVDC projects, ensuring alignment with project goals in terms of schedule, cost, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of engineering activities of the HVDC Solution Line scope of works on large EPC projects.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring deliverables are integrated, consistent, and aligned with project milestones.
  • Act as the technical lead within the project, driving decision-making and managing interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and customers.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with customers, partners, and suppliers on technical topics.
  • Anticipate and manage risks by maintaining an up-to-date risk register and driving mitigation plans.
  • Enforce a structured change management process.
  • Ensure high standards of quality and compliance, applying internal processes, safety (EHS) requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Represent engineering in project governance, providing clear reporting on progress, issues, and KPIs.
  • Contribute to key project reviews and decisions.
  • Support site teams during execution, ensuring a smooth transition from design to construction and commissioning.
  • Resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Mentor and empower project engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Carry out regular and thorough reviews of the progress and delivery of the PDG scope of work, assessing time, cost, quality, and risks.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree in Electrical / Power Systems / Electronics / Automation
  • 10+ years of experience as Project Engineering Manager or similar role in EPC environments (Energy, Transmission, Distribution, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, or similar industries)

  • Minimum engineering budget managed: +5-10M$
  • Strong project management skills and solid experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and multiple stakeholders, ideally across international and multicultural environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering project lifecycles, risk management, technical interfaces, and configuration/change control.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills: able to influence, align teams, and represent engineering with confidence in internal and customer meetings.
  • Fluent in English (proficiency in German is an advantage)
  • Comfortable with occasional travel (Europe and internationally) for project needs.
