About the Role
As a Lead Machine Learning Scientist on the Financial Crime Data team, you will be responsible for building and iterating on financial crime defensive capabilities to ensure the safety of Monzo and its customers. This role involves working with billions of rows of data on a modern cloud-native data platform, leveraging deep experience in developing and deploying advanced Machine Learning models to detect suspicious user behaviors, minimize impact to genuine customers, and adapt to evolving fraud trends.
Responsibilities
- Automatically and accurately detect suspicious user behaviours while minimising impact to genuine customers and operational costs
- Adapt quickly and appropriately to changing fraud and financial crime trends, ensuring our detection systems remain performant through time
- Provide technical leadership and ship highly impactful ML-based solutions
- Work with stakeholders across the organization to identify and scope out the most impactful opportunities to tackle Financial Crime and Fraud with Machine Learning
- Lead the design and development of advanced real time Machine Learning models, exploring neural network, graph-based, and sequence-based architectures
- Provide technical leadership to drive up levels of technical expertise and best practice across the Machine Learning discipline, leading by example and mentoring others
- Work closely with our MLOps team to steer the ongoing development of tools to enable rapid iteration of models and optimisations of the full ML model lifecycle
Requirements
- Multiple year track record of excellence leading the development and deployment of advanced Machine Learning models to tackle real business problems, preferably in a fast-moving tech company
- Experience developing and shipping deep learning, graph-based, and/or sequence-based ML architectures to production and delivering business impact
- Impact driven and excited to own the end-to-end journey from business problem to measurable production impact
- Self-starter mindset; proactively identify issues and opportunities and tackle them
- Extensive experience writing production Python code and a strong command of SQL
- Comfortable using Python and SQL daily
- Keen to learn Go lang
- Comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity and experience helping teams and stakeholders resolve ambiguity
- Product mindset: care about customer outcomes and make data-informed decisions
- Adaptable, curious and enjoy learning new technologies and ideas
