About the Role

Empire Merchants, a world-class distributor of fine wines and spirits, is seeking an extraordinary Field Sales Manager to achieve sales volume and distribution objectives by managing and coaching a team of sales representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-plan sales periods by holding one-on-one meetings with representatives to strategize goal achievement and identify target accounts.
  • Conduct effective weekly sales meetings to communicate objectives, identify opportunities, review performance, and guide team members.
  • Develop and review performance enhancement plans for sales representatives, including maintaining training files, conducting evaluations, and monitoring new hire progress.
  • Address skill deficiencies by developing customized coaching plans and tracking improvement.
  • Demonstrate strong customer orientation by maintaining key account relationships, identifying opportunities, performing business reviews, developing opening orders, selling-in store resets, managing territories, and resolving complaints.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process, including sourcing candidates, scheduling and conducting interviews, and managing the onboarding process.
  • Manage supplier surveys by planning routes, pre-surveying accounts, conducting surveys with suppliers, and recapping results.
  • Coordinate supplier ride-withs by collaborating with Business Managers on scheduling sales representatives.
  • Resolve customer issues by following administrative processes and company policies, and escalating to management as appropriate.
  • Complete all necessary training programs, including attending, participating, and passing required tests.
  • Maintain professional and industry knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and establishing networks.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent training and work experience.
  • Ability to hold a Solicitor’s Permit is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient PC skills using MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and other various computer programs including presentation software.
  • Ability to share workspace, travel by car or train, dress in proper business attire, attend evening meetings and meet deadlines.

Skills

  • Understanding of wine and spirits required.
  • WSET Certification (I, II, III any of the levels) preferred.
  • Previous spirits and wine sales management experience preferred.
  • Experience as a Sales Representative for a large distributor preferred.
  • Results-oriented professional with excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Diplomacy and discretion.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient PC skills using MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and other various computer programs including presentation software.
