About the Role

The Royal Opera House is seeking a Lighting Systems Manager to lead the Lighting Department's equipment and systems, provide technical advice, and ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality. This role is crucial for delivering technical excellence in performances, rehearsals, and events, and involves contributing to the Production Lighting Rig Upgrade.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small team within the Lighting Department.
• Manage the equipment and systems of the Lighting Department.
• Provide technical advice for additional equipment needs, productions, events, and outside venues.
• Ensure all activities are carried out to the highest possible standard of safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Deliver sustainable, future-proofed, and cost-effective lighting solutions for live performance demands.
• Drive the Lighting Systems team forward to achieve departmental ambitions.
• Support and lead teams and projects to deliver high-quality productions.
• Adhere to Health and Safety policy and best practice.

Requirements

• A strong background in managing lighting systems for major professional theatres.
• Up-to-date practical experience in lighting systems management.
• Relevant, accredited electrical training aligned with current standards (such as BS7909 and BS7671) is an advantage.
• A solid understanding of modern lighting equipment and systems.
• An interest in emerging technologies and sustainable practices.
• The ability to interpret production needs and help shape lighting solutions.
• Suggest improvements to existing systems and equipment.
• Confidence using lighting industry software.
• Experience supporting and leading teams and projects to deliver high-quality productions.
• A positive, collaborative leadership approach.
• A strong awareness of and adherence to Health and Safety policy and best practice.
• Work authorization for the UK.
