Responsibilities
- Manual sweeping of streets and other areas, including footways, channels, alleys, subways, under and around street furniture.
- Remove all dirt, dust, litter, excreta, loose chipping, debris, blossom, leaves, vegetation or any other matter to achieve the required standard.
- Ensure all Gully Grids are clear of obstructions and that sweepings are not swept over or pushed down gully grids.
- Empty litter bins and replace liners properly.
- Report locations of fly-tipping, graffiti, fly-posting, or damaged/missing litter bins to your Foreman.
- Work alone or as part of a team with or without cleaning machines.
- Complete tasks to schedule and report discrepancies immediately to your Foreman or manager.
- Perform duties efficiently and effectively to ensure maximum productivity.
- Be aware of obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 and follow the Code of Safe Working Practice for Street Cleansing.
- Report all accidents and near misses to your Foreman/Manager, and to the Police if appropriate, completing reports before leaving work.
- Check equipment at the start of each shift and prior to leaving the depot, exchanging damaged or worn-out items.
- Report anything needing repair to your Foreman/Manager.
- Perform thorough cleansing of the sweeper's barrow as per the cleansing schedule.
- Maintain a courteous and professional relationship with the public, client staff, and colleagues.
- Attend any training course requested by your Foreman/Manager.
