About the Role
We are building the next generation of AI-driven game experiences, running generative models on-device. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for On-Device & Mobile AI, you will optimize state-of-the-art multi-modal models to run fast, small, and reliably on mobile and constrained hardware. This hands-on role involves owning the optimization and deployment of the inference stack, directly shaping the player experience.
Responsibilities
- Own the optimization pipeline for models: model export, graph transformation, operator fusion, memory-layout planning, and hardware-specific tuning.
- Apply quantization, weight sharing, pruning, and knowledge distillation to meet latency, memory, and power budgets.
- Perform low-level performance work, including writing and tuning WebGPU compute shaders and native kernels.
- Profile performance using browser and platform tools to eliminate bottlenecks.
- Apply efficiency techniques like dynamic resolution and reduced-step diffusion samplers.
- Work with WebGPU-targeted inference runtimes and extend or build glue code.
- Build parts of the integration between the ML runtime and the game engine.
- Build supporting engineering for components, including model packaging and asset pipelines.
- Partner with research scientists to turn novel architectures into deployable, debuggable, and fast on-device implementations.
- Provide feedback to research on hardware constraints and op-support gaps.
- Track and assess breakthroughs in efficient inference.
- Contribute to engineering best practices, code-review standards, and performance-regression gates.
- Support a culture of measurement by tracking KPIs for latency, quality, memory, and power.
- Partner with platform engineers, product managers, and runtime teams.
- Share knowledge and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years in software/ML engineering, with significant focus on on-device/edge inference or real-time, performance-critical systems.
- Production deployment of transformer- and/or diffusion-based models on mobile, desktop, or embedded hardware.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major inference runtime (ONNX Runtime / ORT Web, CoreML, TFLite, ExecuTorch).
- Working understanding of operator fusion, memory layout, and runtime scheduling.
- Solid command of at least one GPU/compute API (WebGPU/WGSL, Metal, Vulkan, D3D12, or CUDA) and associated profiling tools.
- Ability to read frame captures and kernel traces to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Working knowledge of model-optimization techniques (quantization, weight sharing, pruning, distillation).
- Understanding of target hardware (mobile SoCs and/or desktop/laptop GPUs).
- Strong Python for export pipelines and training-side tooling.
- Working fluency with models to read architectures, modify for deployment, and reason about accuracy trade-offs.
- Collaborative working style with clear communication and reliable delivery.
