About the Role

PayPal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in New York, NY to architect and develop large-scale back-end software systems, design and build complex RESTful APIs and microservices, and lead engineering teams through complex technical challenges. The role involves performing large-scale data processing, implementing caching strategies, and optimizing performance, while working closely with design, product, and QA teams to deliver world-class software experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop large-scale back-end software systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain complex RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Lead engineering teams through complex technical challenges and design decisions.
  • Perform large-scale data processing, caching strategies, and performance optimization.
  • Work closely with design, product, and QA teams to deliver world-class software experiences.
  • Prioritize code quality, customer focus, and rapid iteration.
  • Drive technical excellence and best practices.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Build distributed systems and microservices.
  • Contribute to open-source software projects.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field, plus three years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience with Python or Java Data and Application Software Development – 3 years
  • Experience with Java Application Software Development – 3 years
  • Experience with Monitoring & Logging Production Workloads and Resolving Production Incidents for Tier 1 Services at Scale – 3 years
  • Experience with Architecting Infrastructure and Application Solutions with a focus on Scale, Availability, and Performance – 1.5 years
  • Experience as a Technical lead for project execution for multi-year phased project, including leading a team of engineers – 1.5 years
  • Experience evolving existing systems to meet new business and product requirements - 2 years
  • Experience collaborating with product, TPM, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions – 3 years
  • Experience establishing evolving coding standards and enforcing best practices in SDLC - 3 years
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
