About the Role
The Receptionist acts as a representative for the community and Sequoia Living, greeting and directing visitors, residents, vendors, and others in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner. This role operates the telephone system to receive and direct incoming calls. It is ideal for individuals who enjoy partnering with people and are excited about making a difference.
Responsibilities
- Receives visitors, determines the nature of their visit, and directs them accordingly.
- Handles a multi-line switchboard, takes and refers messages, operates the public announcement system, and manages hand-held radios, beepers, and paging systems.
- Monitors fire and emergency alarms, relaying messages to emergency personnel and staff.
- Greets in-house residents, providing general information and referrals.
- Performs related clerical work, including typing, filing, sorting, and distributing memos and flyers.
- Accepts and handles deliveries such as flowers, packages, and mail.
- Completes requests for outside services, including telephone and other services, and may assist by calling vendors or relaying phone numbers.
- Arranges public room reservations and maintains logs.
- Keeps a variety of routine records, such as log books, maintenance requests, resident absence records, guest room charge slips, and room key assignments.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements

- Ability to use tact and courtesy when dealing with residents, showing patience and understanding.
- Ability to handle varied days, a fast-paced environment, and work under pressure.
- Effective interpersonal skills to greet visitors and residents positively and work cooperatively with the administrative team.
- Ability to act with professional demeanor, tact, and courtesy in demanding and difficult conditions.
- Patience and understanding of the elderly.
- Excellent telephone manner.
- Proficient English written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
- Ability to handle busy phone lines, emergencies, pressure, and multi-task.
- Ability to perform light typing and clerical duties.
- Sound judgment skills to assess needs and determine appropriate actions.
