About the Role
The Sales Manager is entrusted with the responsibility to generate revenue, implement and oversee strategies to drive total room, banquet and catering revenue. This includes being held accountable for market performance, meeting budget goals, forecasting and optimizing opportunities to meet targets that include market mix, pricing, status, direct sales, marketing, public and community relations.
Responsibilities
- Solicit group room sales through effective oral and written communication, overseeing rate, date, and space commitments.
- Collaborate with the General Manager and team members to promote the hotel.
- Compile and direct the preparation of Sales Department reports, including annual/monthly forecasts, marketing budgets, lead management systems, booking pace reports, star reports, and sales meeting minutes.
- Coordinate research of the travel industry to detect market trends and develop new marketing strategies.
- Make recommendations to improve potential from various markets.
- Develop and conduct persuasive sales presentations to prospective clients.
- Communicate verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
- Initiate and execute the annual business plan, adjusting as necessary based on market conditions.
- Organize and attend scheduled sales department, executive committee, and related meetings.
- Manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize hotel revenue.
- Prepare, implement, and compile data for the strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, and forecasts.
- Develop strategies for rates, group sales, and meeting space deployment by reviewing competitive data, demand analysis, and mix management.
- Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
- Oversee departmental matters related to federal, state, and local employment and civil rights laws.
- Comply with attendance rules and be available to work 40-45 hours weekly.
- Meet and exceed performance expectations.
- Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Sales experience in the hospitality industry required.
- 2+ years of sales and marketing leadership in a similar-sized operation preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Gmail systems.
- Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills, and budgetary analysis capabilities required.
- Extensive knowledge of sales skills, revenue management, and team motivation.
- Ability to effectively listen, communicate, and perform diplomacy with internal and external customers and staff in all situations.
- Ability to stand and move throughout the hotel property and continuously perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
- Willing to work evenings and occasionally a weekend.
