About the Role

The Dairy/Frozen Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the dairy/frozen department, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff. Department Managers are responsible for their department's success and are required to fulfill Manager on Duty (MOD) duties on a scheduled basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide world-class customer service as a top priority.
  • Exemplify integrity, responsibility, and excellence, adhering to all policies.
  • Create inviting, full, and shopable departments.
  • Order for the dairy/frozen department (including deli and meat) and maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Manage margin, COGS, and overall department profitability, minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
  • Ensure all in-stock products and conditions meet company standards.
  • Offer and follow up on special orders.
  • Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
  • Manage and participate in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
  • Train and monitor department personnel, assigning and following up on tasks.
  • Work with other department managers to cross-train staff.
  • Conduct active and passive demos.
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring for department needs.
  • Work with the store manager to address performance and/or disciplinary issues within the department.
  • Open and close the store, including DSR and the closing cash process.
  • Handle register functions including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes.
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
  • Manage business disruptions such as loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather situations, and bathroom misuse.
  • Answer customer questions per company standards and policies.
  • Continually increase product knowledge.
  • Utilize SAP and inventory management software, run and analyze reports on BEx, and use other IS programs.
  • Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Be 'hands-on' and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • 1-2 years of retail experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience supervising others preferred.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on the task at hand.
  • Sense of urgency in task completion.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must have the ability to constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift.
  • Must have the ability to frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs. and occasionally push or pull 16-100 lbs.
  • Must be able to occasionally use the computer for data entry and mouse use.
  • Must be able to constantly walk, stand, use fine motor manipulations, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward.
  • Must be able to frequently reach above chest.
  • Must be able to occasionally sit, squat, kneel, and climb as needed.
  • Must be able to frequently work with sharp tools and equipment, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.
  • Must be able to occasionally work with noise, cold, heat, wet, humid, outside, heights, and contact stress.
