About the Role

As a Senior Engineer, Email at Razorfish, you will be a vital part of our team, contributing your skills and expertise to design and build innovative solutions for our clients. You will actively participate in hands-on programming tasks, working collaboratively with project teams to deliver high-quality code and meet project objectives. Your adaptability to new technologies and tools within your career path will be essential as you help create digital experiences that drive success for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in hands-on programming tasks to contribute to the design and development of client solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively within project teams, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality code that meets project objectives.
  • Embrace and adapt to new technologies and tools within your career path to stay at the forefront of the digital landscape.

Requirements

  • Expert-level knowledge of writing semantic, table-based HTML layouts that are robust and compatible with a wide range of email clients.
  • Strong command of CSS, particularly inline CSS, and an understanding of which properties are supported or ignored by major email clients.
  • High proficiency with advanced templating languages such as FreeMarker, Liquid, Jinja, Handlebars.js, and similar frameworks, including the ability to resolve complex multi-variable logic signals and dynamic content rules.
  • Ability to build emails that render perfectly on all screen sizes using media queries and fluid design techniques.
  • Proficiency with Git for code management and collaboration with other developers.
  • Deep understanding of the quirks and inconsistencies between different email clients.
  • Knowledge of how to make emails accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Experience in designing and coding emails that look great in both light and dark modes.
  • Ability to slice and optimize images for email to ensure fast load times.
  • Experience supporting localized email workflows or high-volume multilingual campaigns is a plus, especially for programs scaled across many markets or languages.
  • Understanding of concepts that affect email deliverability.
  • Hands-on experience with platforms like Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), Marketo, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Braze, etc.
  • Experience with Google’s proprietary CRM/campaign orchestration platforms, including visual WYSIWYG builders and custom HTML/FreeMarker code imports, is a plus.
  • Proficiency with layout testing suites such as Litmus and Email on Acid, with the ability to leverage custom development utilities to inspect and troubleshoot client-specific rendering bugs, including mobile browser CSS exclusions.
  • Experience with local development workflows using Node.js, Gulp, webpack, or similar pipelines for CSS compiling with Sass, linting, asset optimization, and building production-ready email code.
  • Experience or familiarity with modern AI-powered developer tools, coding assistants, and agentic development workflows (e.g., Gemini, Google’s Antigravity, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or similar platforms). Ability to leverage these tools effectively for code generation, debugging, testing, documentation, automation, and developer productivity is a plus.
  • Proficiency in parsing data from sources like CSV files and API (JSON) responses. Ability to iterate through data structures (lists, arrays) using loops to transform, validate, filter, and map data into reusable formats for dynamic email content and campaign workflows.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant programming languages and technology platforms used in the digital marketing industry.
