About the Role

As a valued member of the senior leadership team, the Divisional Vice President, Finance defines the luxury lifestyle shopping experience through building lasting relationships with our people, and partners by directly and indirectly overseeing financial operations including accounting, tax, external financial reporting, treasury, financial transactions services and vendor relations for all legal entities within the structure. This role reports directly to the CFO.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting operations to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with IFRS
  • Responsible for the annual statutory financial statements and external audit process, including presentation to Audit Committee
  • Responsible for monthly internal management pack provided to executive leadership & Board of Directors
  • Provide guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting
  • Lead the balance sheet and cash flow budgeting and forecasting process
  • Ensure compliance with all tax authorities, either through direct management or use of tax specialist
  • Ensure effective controls over financial reporting are in place
  • Support the on-going advancement and monitoring of financial control systems designed to preserve company assets, minimize risk of loss, and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to support operational activities and investments
  • Ensure appropriate cash management policies, practices and reporting to effectively manage cash on hand and satisfy company’s obligations
  • Maintain banking relationships and oversee bank facilities and covenants
  • Foreign currency management
  • Lead accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales audit and vendor/customer data maintenance teams
  • Ensure integrity of sales and receivables, as well accuracy, completeness and timeliness of customer payments
  • Ensure that effective procedures and controls are in place over payment processes to safeguard company assets and pay vendors on a timely basis
  • Gatekeeper for vendor payment terms
  • Oversee Holt Renfrew Vendor Reference Manual and Vendor Terms Card for merchandise vendor partners with the objective of ensuring process efficiencies, regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
  • Responsible for non-compliance management
  • Partner with other areas of the business on strategic initiatives and system changes to ensure financial controls and accounting requirements are appropriately considered and that overall company goals are achieved
  • Serve as a member and Treasurer of the Holt Renfrew pension committee. Treasurer’s role is to ensure that financial statements are completed and filed as per regulatory requirements.
  • Treasurer for Property company which entails general financial oversight, budget development, cash management, financial reporting and setting appropriate financial policies.
  • Lead, motivate, train and retain a team of 30+ high performing employees via 5 direct reports
  • Support leadership and parent company on ad-hoc financial requests
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and requirements

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field & professional accounting designation (CPA, CA preferred)
  • 15+ years of post-secondary progressive experience in finance
  • Seasoned leader with minimum of 10+ years management experience in a leadership and people management role driving a collaborative, high performance, fact-based, metrics-driven, accountability-oriented finance organization who is energized by the challenge of improving financial accounting and business processes, finding operating efficiencies and establishing performance-driven environments.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of specific IFRS policies including revenue recognition, impairment assessment and lease accounting
  • Ability to apply experience and knowledge to create appropriate, sustainable and efficient solutions
  • Have the ability and willingness to think beyond the basic elements of accounting and have an interest in understanding how they translate to the overall operations and systems
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills with the ability to get things done; encourages growth and promotes continuous learning within the team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Experience in setting priorities, developing work/program schedules, monitoring quality and reporting on program outcomes to stakeholders
  • Experience implementing and/or upgrading finance systems
  • Results driven, ambitious, strong initiative, reliable and excellent problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficient in the use of accounting software (SAP)
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Passion for fashion and luxury retailing
