About the Role
The Student Support Services Officer will provide information and customer service to support students throughout their academic journey. This role acts as the first point of contact for students, contributing to a positive student experience by resolving queries and fostering engagement, support, and community.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for students, providing guidance, support, and referrals.
- Deliver student support services through advising, group sessions, webinars, and timely responses to inquiries.
- Plan, coordinate, and promote student engagement initiatives.
- Build supportive relationships with students to foster well-being, resilience, career readiness, and a positive university experience.
- Support the Student Council and student clubs, collaborating on the annual Student Life calendar and communications.
- Handle escalated student concerns, contribute to surveys and continuous improvement initiatives, and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Perform other related duties and projects in support of Student Support Services.
Requirements
- Minimum two years of recent and relevant experience in higher education and student services.
- Experience being on-call, responding under pressure, and managing urgent situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including handling sensitive information confidentially.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage workload, priorities, and tasks with accuracy.
- Demonstrated customer service skills with an ability to diffuse escalated situations.
- A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a genuine interest in working with students.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with students and colleagues at all levels.
- Proficient in software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, database, spreadsheets, and word processing).
- Available to work Tuesdays through Saturdays.
- Expected to reside in Ontario and within a reasonable commuting distance of the office/campus.
