About the Role
The Liability Examiner provides critical claims examining services for Synergy casualty accounts, including niche market clients. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance coverage across various business lines and the ability to handle casualty claims with minimal supervision, ensuring policyholder obligations are met and the insurer's reputation is protected.
Responsibilities
- Determine coverage and identify coverage issues by applying knowledge of insurance policies and relevant coverage/loss types.
- Issue Reservation of Rights and/or declination letters.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with insured parties, agents, brokers, public adjusters, attorneys, and other claims process stakeholders.
- Review claims and claim status with clients and brokers to facilitate prompt and accurate resolution.
- Obtain and prepare necessary documentation for verification of losses and claims administration.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and processes for preparing information and submitting reports.
- Ensure the accuracy of collected and reported information, and guard against fraudulent claims.
- Demonstrate expertise in coverage determination, investigation, reserving, negotiation, settlement, and overall claim strategy.
- Review, interpret, and evaluate medical bills and/or reports to determine damages and settlement value.
- Manage litigation activities, budgets, and claim outcomes, considering customer and company impact.
- Maintain high levels of internal and external communication with clients, claimants, and attorneys, and provide timely reporting to carriers.
- Analyze contracts and agreements for risk transfer.
- Assess subrogation potential of losses and recommend files to subrogation adjusters.
- Stay informed about industry information, developments, and trends.
- Participate in special assignments and activities as required.
- Maintain the confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information.
- Uphold the values of Synergy and its foundation.
- Adhere to all applicable state insurance regulations and requirements, and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Maintain a current state adjusting license.
Requirements
- At least 5-10 years of experience as a claims professional.
- Technical competence in handling casualty claims, SIR programs, and the Lloyd’s of London market.
- Valid NY Adjuster's license.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent knowledge and critical thinking skills.
- Active license or ability to obtain licenses in multiple jurisdictions within the expected timeframe.
