About the Role

The New York Islanders are seeking a performer to assist as Sparky the Dragon and/or Nyisles the Fisherman for select mascot appearances. This part-time role represents the New York Islanders as a brand ambassador, delivering a professional and entertaining fan experience. The position is within the NYI Game Presentation Department.

Responsibilities

• Act as brand ambassador at private events, Islanders School Assembly Programs, Islanders I.C.E. Tour events, Islanders Street and Floorball Program events, and other internal and external events.
• Communicate emotions and engage with guests using body language, facial expressions, and gestures with strong listening skills.
• Administer the maintenance and cleanliness of the mascot’s costumes.
• Perform choreographed routines, skits, and improvisational acts.

Requirements

• Previous mascot experience is a must.
• Must fall within the height range of 5’8” to 5’11” with a shoe size 10-10.5 to properly fit into the mascot costumes.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable performing in a full-body costume for extended periods.
• Able to withstand a range of environments, including hot or outdoor conditions.
• Capable of standing, walking, dancing, and performing physical movements on a variety of surfaces.

Skills

• Outgoing personality and great with kids.

• Goal and detail-oriented.
• Skating experience is a plus, but not required.
• Comfortable adjusting on the fly.
• Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Quick-thinking and capable of reacting spontaneously when needed.
• Strong attention to detail and punctuality.
• Positive attitude with a strong work ethic; team-first mentality and eagerness to learn.
• General knowledge of hockey is preferred.
• Experience in live sports or mascot-related roles is a plus (e.g., hype team, performer, handler, spirit squad).
• Flexibility: Switch gears on a moment’s notice and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Motivation: Leverage personal skills to drive results and influence success.
• Autonomy: Manage time, work independently, and prioritize tasks.
• Collaboration: Liaise with cross-functional internal teams and establish positive relationships.
