About the Role

The Senior Spacecraft GN&C Engineer will own the implementation, maintenance, and validation of the mission’s end-to-end pointing control simulation for advanced space observatory missions. This hands-on role involves modeling, simulation, and verification, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure pointing requirement compliance and system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and validate the mission’s integrated pointing control simulation.
  • Assess spacecraft attitude control, fine pointing, jitter sensitivity, and line-of-sight stability.
  • Perform GN&C modeling and analysis using MATLAB, Simulink, and Python.
  • Integrate GN&C, AOCS, WCC/guider, FSM, jitter, and structural models from internal teams and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automated workflows for subsystem and system-level pointing verification.
  • Generate verification outputs, margin assessments, plots, and reports for formal V&V closure.
  • Support test-data processing, model validation, and performance trending during AI&T, commissioning, and operations.
  • Support jitter and line-of-sight stability verification by representing disturbance sources and structural dynamics.
  • Analyze and verify control interfaces between the spacecraft bus, WCC, telescope, FSM, and payload.
  • Close interface gaps and open actions related to WCC–Bus AOCS and WCC–FSM interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in spacecraft GN&C, AOCS/ADCS, control systems, or precision pointing systems.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining control-system simulations.
  • Experience developing analysis scripts and automated workflows using MATLAB, Simulink, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of control-system fundamentals, including stability, bandwidth, and disturbance rejection.
  • Experience with pointing budgets, jitter analysis, and line-of-sight stability.
  • Experience developing or verifying requirements, ICDs, analyses, and test plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person or receive U.S. Government approval to access export-controlled information.
