About the Role

The Usher will provide quality customer service to patrons attending events, assist in event preparation and conclusion, and effectively assist patrons in the event of an emergency. This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, the ability to work independently and within a team, and flexibility to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts or obtain an approved replacement.
  • Greet guests in a friendly and courteous manner, check belongings, scan tickets, distribute programs, and escort guests to seats.
  • Perform additional duties such as event set up and take down, program assembly, and distribution.
  • Attend pre-event briefings for job assignments and event specifics.
  • Work any assignment, including duties not explicitly listed.
  • Direct and manage patron traffic for safe and effective flow.
  • Monitor assigned areas for safety, cleanliness, and functionality, and report any issues.
  • Respond quickly and courteously to patron needs and concerns.
  • Retrieve and turn in lost items found in assigned areas after the event.
  • Assist in safeguarding patrons during emergencies.
  • Stand for the duration of a shift (approximately 4 hours).
  • Adhere to established dress code.
  • Attend required training and meetings.
  • Assist with procedures for injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist patrons with accessibility-related issues.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Customer-focused with the capacity to handle situations requiring diplomacy, tact, approachability, and assertiveness.
  • Understand and adhere to established policies and procedures, including emergency procedures.
  • Familiarization with the location of exits and use of emergency equipment.
  • Ability to provide accurate knowledge to patrons regarding venue logistics, event information, and building details.
  • Ability to read event tickets in dim lighting with a flashlight.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, sometimes throughout an entire event.
  • Ability to lift 20 kilograms.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take CPR and First Aid training if not currently certified.
  • Willing to submit to a criminal record check.
