About the Role
The substitute teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of students within the framework of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The role focuses on maximizing student competencies for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth.
Responsibilities
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the school mission
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling Catholic Church teachings
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies of the school and Diocese
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters
- Plan instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum
- Provide appropriate materials and resources for student learning
- Utilize effective instructional methods and professional standard practices
- Use varied formative and summative assessment tools
- Provide instruction and assessment for understanding
- Maintain current and accurate records per school policy
- Practice positive, consistent classroom discipline
- Communicate with parents regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns
- Meet staff development guidelines set by the Diocese or local administration
- Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
Requirements
- Submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment
- Participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of application
- Maintain EIM compliance throughout the term of employment
- Possess qualifications required for a regular teacher if responsible for a class for 50% or more of a grading period
