About the Role

The Learning & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for designing and coordinating engaging learning experiences to connect people with nature and inspire action for conservation. This role will support the implementation of the Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs and experiences for various audiences to drive revenue and attendance.
  • Creates and maintains interpretive and learning resources to support staff, volunteers, and guest experiences.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, and training to program staff and volunteers.
  • Ensures programs are designed and delivered using current and emerging educational approaches.
  • Communicates with Marketing/Strategic Communications to ensure successful promotion of programs and experiences.
  • Responds to inquiries and processes registrations and bookings.
  • Schedules program staff and arranges program spaces.
  • Coordinates behind-the-scenes tours and secures presenters.
  • Collaborates with others to enhance guest learning and engagement.
  • Ensures registration, sales, and database systems are maintained accurately.
  • Maintains accurate statistics of expenditures, revenues, and attendance, and produces reports.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Follows all policies and branch instructions.
  • Attends appropriate training as required.

Requirements

  • University degree in Biology or related field and/or a Bachelor of Education or equivalent zoo education/training and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years proven experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational experiences using current and emerging educational approaches.
  • Familiarity with the current Ontario elementary and secondary school curriculum relevant to the Zoo experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with strong presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to organize projects from inception to completion with attention to detail.
  • Experience in producing interpretive/learning resources and materials.
  • Creative self-starter capable of working with minimum supervision.
  • Proven experience motivating and working as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including MS Word, Excel, E-mail, and databases.
  • Ability to work weekends, shifts, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Ability to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
  • Successful candidate may be required to provide a police reference check and/or driver’s abstract at their own expense.
  • Candidates may be required to take a written and/or practical examination.

  • $33.43 after 520 hours
