About the Role
The Place Department is seeking a School Crossing Patroller to join the Parking service. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of pedestrians traveling to and from school and for being an integral part of the local community. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Use a school crossing patrol sign to give clear signals to drivers to help pedestrians cross the road safely.
- Control children waiting to cross the road and take appropriate action to avoid traffic accidents.
- Monitor traffic flow considering vehicle speed, road junctions, and weather conditions to determine the safest crossing times.
- Report problems or incidents to the Parking Policy Manager and, where necessary, the Head Teacher.
Requirements
- Friendly attitude.
- Good level of verbal communication skills.
- Some knowledge of road safety.
- Clear understanding of how distance and speed of vehicles can change with road conditions and prevailing weather.
- Level of physical fitness and alertness to stand and walk for set periods.
- Punctual, reliable, and assertive.
- Committed to ensuring the safety of pedestrians and drivers.
- Must pass an Enhanced DBS Check.
