About the Role

This role focuses on the functional ownership of ADAS systems, involving requirement analysis, specification, ECU/software development leadership, technical challenge resolution, evaluation, functional safety, release management, defect handling, and communication with OEMs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and clarify OEM functional and performance requirements.
  • Identify ambiguities and contradictions in requirements.
  • Clarify implementation constraints (CPU load, memory, sensor performance).
  • Propose requirement modifications and supplements to OEMs.
  • Create functional specification documents from ECU/software perspectives.
  • Organize functional boundary conditions (activation/deactivation conditions).
  • Formulate software architecture policies for functional units.
  • Organize algorithm configurations and processing flows.
  • Clarify assumptions for sensor inputs (Camera/Radar, etc.).
  • Define interfaces with other ECUs and vehicle signals.
  • Decompose software requirements and instruct development teams.
  • Lead design reviews for functional units.
  • Balance performance, computational resources, and cost.
  • Consider alternative solutions for performance shortfalls or specification deviations.
  • Present constraints arising from sensor performance limitations.
  • Prioritize and consolidate requirements from multiple OEMs.
  • Analyze functional impacts of technical challenges and explain to OEMs.
  • Formulate SIL/HIL/vehicle evaluation strategies.
  • Verify the technical validity of functional evaluation scenarios.
  • Review evaluation results and isolate issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis for false positives and malfunctions.
  • Provide technical responses and corrective action plans for OEM evaluation results.
  • Organize functional aspects for ISO 26262.
  • Incorporate safety requirements (FSR/TSR) into functions.
  • Support consideration of unexpected scenarios from a SOTIF perspective.
  • Provide technical explanations during safety and quality reviews.
  • Confirm aspects related to mass production quality (prevention of defect leakage).
  • Manage software release content for functional units.
  • Evaluate the functional impact of release differences.
  • Assess the impact of remaining issues before mass production and propose acceptance decisions.
  • Prepare technical explanation documents for OEM mass production decisions.
  • Analyze the functional impact of defects.
  • Lead technical analysis of logs and data.
  • Consider temporary and permanent solutions for defects.
  • Evaluate the functional impact of software updates (including OTA).
  • Respond to market quality inquiries from OEMs.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for OEMs.
  • Explain functional feasibility and constraints.
  • Achieve consensus on technical challenges and alternative solutions.
  • Participate in regular technical reviews with OEM FO/TPM.

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of experience in the automotive or mobility industry.
  • Experience and track record in embedded system verification within the automotive industry.
  • Experience as a Functional Owner in ADAS system development.
  • Experience in ADAS system or software design and evaluation.
  • Understanding of sensor characteristics (camera/radar).
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and chassis.
  • Fluent reading, writing, and conversational skills in Japanese.
  • Business-level reading and writing skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with client stakeholders and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively within a team.
  • Proactive, flexible, and enthusiastic about self-development and mentoring junior staff.
  • Systematic, structured, and logical thinking with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adopt the latest testing methods and tools.
