About the Role

This 12-month internship offers a unique opportunity to analyze and develop software, support automation and testing, and contribute to the Vital Software Engineering team at Hitachi Rail Canada. The role provides real-world work experience, training, networking, and career development within a global leader focused on digital transformation and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow company processes for developing vital software for safety-critical railway systems.
  • Assist with software development and algorithm implementations for safety-critical systems.
  • Develop software tools and scripts to enhance CI/CD by migrating solutions to the generic Hitachi Rail CI/CD pipeline.
  • Develop fitness testing (Python, C, wiki) within the CI/CD context for safety-critical software based on requirements.
  • Document software solutions using wiki.
  • Elaborate metrics and dashboards for management reporting.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Python, C/C++, Shell scripting, JSON, and Groovy.
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment with tools like Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins, and Artifactory.
  • Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot.
  • Highly adaptable with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Self-driven, curious, and proactive mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the agreed work term.
  • Hybrid work arrangement: minimum of two days per week in the office; first month requires full-time onsite presence.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of software development (preferred).
  • Good organizational abilities (preferred).
  • Able to quickly integrate with the team and work independently (preferred).
