About the Role

Huckleberry House provides youth experiencing instability with temporary shelter, therapy, case management, and linkage to additional services. This role is crucial in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision of youth in the shelter and during community outings, meetings, and appointments.
• Conduct intake assessments with youth and engage with parents, legal guardians, and other involved adults.
• Provide crisis counseling for clients and families in person and over the phone.
• Answer phones, respond to crisis calls, and provide business, information, and referral services.
• Assist with case management tasks, including referrals and collaboration with community partners and clinicians.
• Participate in a minimum of one overnight shift per week.
• Support with emergency shift coverage when necessary.
• Supervise clients at all times in alignment with their case plan and daily schedule, including group time, homework, meals, phone time, and bedtime preparation.
• Supervise clients during awake overnight shifts, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations.
• Ensure all community agreements are upheld by clients and staff to maintain client safety.
• Educate clients on life skills, coping mechanisms, and steps to achieve case plan goals.
• Reinforce and model boundaries and conflict resolution.
• Conduct client check-ins as needed or requested.
• Support with creating, planning, and facilitating client activities aligned with their case plans.
• Create a safe environment for youth to explore healing, personal growth, and self-advocacy.
• Support with maintaining a clean and safe facility, including light cleaning and organization.
• Complete the Overnight Checklist during awake overnight shifts.
• Notify management of facility repairs and assist with coordinating arrangements.
• Ensure all Community Care Licensing regulations are followed.
• Attend daily client reviews, weekly staff meetings, weekly supervision check-ins, and other agency meetings.

Requirements

• Previous experience engaging with youth and families in a setting promoting youth advocacy, case management, youth-centered services, and/or crisis services.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and an awake overnight shift.
• Possess a valid CA driver's license and a driving history that allows enrollment in the agency's auto policy.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
• Highly organized, creative, and innovative.
• Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks.
• Applicants with backgrounds including items on the non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible.
• Must be at least twenty-one years of age.
• Must be able to make an 11-month commitment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
