About the Role

This leadership role focuses on the execution of nationally significant infrastructure projects, directing multidisciplinary teams, managing complex contractor and stakeholder interfaces, and driving program performance to achieve safety, schedule, cost, and quality outcomes. The role involves working with high voltage transmission assets and requires strong engineering judgment, commercial discipline, and decision-making confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of project delivery, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and safety, across multiple concurrent work packages.
  • Building, developing, and leading high-performing project teams comprising engineers, coordinators, and specialist contractors.
  • Providing program leadership by establishing milestones, maintaining the critical path, producing credible forecasts, and driving schedule recovery.
  • Managing EPC contractors, subcontractors, and OEM partners with clear accountabilities for scope, deliverables, and interface resolution.
  • Leading change and risk management through early identification of scope creep, disciplined management of variations and extensions of time, and active use of risk registers.
  • Overseeing construction activities on live high voltage sites, including outage coordination, permit management, access constraints, safety hold points, and daily progress assurance.
  • Delivering clear, well-structured reporting to senior leadership and project governance forums, with a forward-looking perspective supported by options and recommendations.
  • Setting the standard for safety leadership across the project through visible leadership, active participation in safety processes, and a culture of early escalation.
  • Managing project budgets, forecasts, and commercial outcomes with a clear understanding of program interdependencies and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinating across design, construction, commercial, environmental, and regulatory workstreams to maintain alignment and momentum throughout delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or related discipline).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Project Management or professional certification (PMP or AIPM).
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive project delivery experience.
  • Proven experience delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects from planning through to successful completion.
  • Strong ownership of scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk across multiple concurrent work packages.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams, including contractors and matrixed resources.
  • Hands-on experience overseeing construction activities in live site environments (high voltage transmission, substations, or large-scale civil and electrical works).
  • Strong track record in managing construction milestones, developing reliable forecasts, and escalating delays early.
  • Significant experience managing EPC contractors, Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, and OEM suppliers, with clear control of scope and interfaces.
  • Proven capability managing RFIs, NCRs, variations, extensions of time, and claims with a pragmatic and outcomes-focused approach.
  • Strong change control discipline and commercial awareness, including management of scope creep, budget tracking, and cost/schedule impacts.
  • Active and disciplined use of risk registers to drive mitigation strategies and safeguard delivery outcomes.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership, underpinned by a strong understanding of high voltage and construction safety, permit systems, and site access requirements.
  • Experience managing quality processes, including inspection and test plans, hold points, defect close-out, and handover documentation.
  • Clear and confident stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to brief senior leadership and present issues with structured options and recommendations.
