About the Role

Support the team that manages HESTA's fixed income portfolios. As Credit Analyst – Fixed Income, you'll deliver credit research that helps the Internal Fixed Income Portfolio Management Team make sound investment decisions across Australian and international fixed interest, credit, and cash. You'll help manage and monitor credit exposures across HESTA's internally managed Fixed Income, Enhanced Cash, Cash and Term Deposit portfolios. This is a role for someone who wants to build their credit research career inside a purpose-driven industry fund, working closely with experienced portfolio managers on real portfolios and real decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Credit Analysts conducting credit research on corporates, banks and structured products.
  • Assist with company initiations, trade recommendation and periodic credit reviews.
  • Keep relevant databases current.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models and forecasts.
  • Help derive and maintain internal credit scores and shadow ratings.
  • Assist with conducting sector and industry research to help inform portfolio managers’ sector allocation decisions.
  • Support trading activity in primary and secondary bond markets.
  • Develop external relationships across the market to source new insights, understand credit market themes and assist with documentation review to support trade execution.
  • Collaborate with the Responsible Investment team to apply and develop HESTA's ESG policies as part of the credit research process.
  • Support risk management by keeping processes and documentation robust and aligned with HESTA's investment risk framework.

Requirements

  • Some experience in a credit and/or equity analysis, along with a strong academic background in finance, economics or a related field.
  • Exposure to debt security analysis, relative value and credit fundamentals.
  • Understand defensive asset classes, including credit, debt, RMBS/ABS and cash.
  • Comfortable working with financial models.
  • Experience working with investment databases.
  • Some exposure to transaction due diligence and investment implementation.
  • A genuine passion for investing, bottom-up company research, strong attention to detail, sound analytical thinking and a genuine drive to keep learning.
